About the Study
This study will evaluate existing rail service in two separate corridors. (Please see Study Area Map to view the two corridors.) It will identify a range of possible alternatives to improve travel times, service frequency, and reliability. Improving commuting conditions along the two study corridors has the potential to have a positive impact on quality of life and future economic development in the regions by providing better commuting options and slowing the growth of traffic volumes and congestion.
The study, funded by the Connecticut Department of Transportation and endorsed by the Transportation Strategy Board, will result in a list of potential infrastructure and service modifications and an evaluation of the costs and benefits of these improvements. The study’s recommendations will provide decision-makers with the information necessary to determine how the Waterbury and New Canaan Branch Line corridor improvements fit into an overall statewide transportation strategy that balances needs and funding ability.
