Study Schedule and Status

The schedule presented below presents a simplified illustration of the study flow, which is anticipated to be completed in late 2009.  As the study moves forward, a number of Study Advisory Committee Meetings, Stakeholder Meetings, and Public Information Meetings will be held.

Study Status

The following provides a very brief summary of on-going work:

Early 2008:

  • Development of base mapping
  • Determination of existing conditions:
    • Ridership (demand)
    • Rail operations
    • Environmental overview
    • Formation of Study Advisory Committee
    • Stakeholder meetings
    • Preparation for upcoming passenger and telephone surveys
  • Determination of  an initial  "long list" of potential branch line modifications/preliminary alternatives

Fall  2008:

  • Completion of passenger and telephone surveys
  • Ongoing stakeholder coordination 

Winter 2008 – Spring 2009:

  • Study Advisory Committee planning charrettes
  • Refinement of “long list” of potential branch line modifications/preliminary alternatives based on feedback from Study Advisory Committee and other stakeholders
  • Public Information Meetings were held June 16, 17, and 18 to present the refined “Long List of Preliminary Alternatives” for both branch lines in order to seek public input to incorporate into the study process

Summer 2009

  • Evaluation and refinement of Long List of Alternatives
  • Transit-Oriented Development (TOD) meetings with stakeholders (please visit Documents)

Fall – Winter 2009

  • Short List of Alternatives developed using screening criteria
  • Study Advisory Committee Meeting #4 held on December 1, 2009

Winter 2010

  • Draft study recommendations were presented for comment to Study Advisory Committee at meeting on February 23, 2010
  • Draft study recommendations were presented for comment in a series of Public Information Meetings in early March 2010. See Public Meetings for more information.

Term Definition
Existing Conditions The conditions of the transportation facilities and the surrounding environment as they currently exist in 2007-2009
Alternatives Potential modifications that utilize the existing rail and/or roadway corridors and create cost‑effective improvements targeted toward enhancing the attractiveness of transit and reducing the demand for auto use for commuting
Future No Build Conditions The condition of the transportation system and surrounding environment 20-25 years into the future assuming no transportation improvements other than normal maintenance and currently programmed improvements are implemented
